Lawn Bowling in South Dakota??
The following article comes from the USLBA Central Division website.
Best known for the Corn Palace, Mitchell, South Dakota will soon be home to the newest lawn bowls club in the US. Construction of the 120×120 foot green was completed in November, except bad weather prohibited seeding that will need to wait until spring. A delayed opening in 2010 has not dampened preparations, led by Rodney Titze, whose vision, enthusiasm and drive are sure to make this club a success.
Here’s a partial listing of the equipment Titze has assembled, even before the first person has set foot on the green: over 30 sets of bowls, 16 jacks, 32 mats, 12 lifters, 1 bowling arm, 1 rake (wood), a dozen measures and 3 dozen carpenter tapes. As well, Titze has also gotten his hands on some smaller indoor bowls and carpet bowls. And let’s not forget to mention the gentleman from Northern Ireland who sent an 8.4oz container of BowlSheen and 2 spray cans of GripPolish!
Titze’s vision includes hosting USLBA sponsored events. He is already lobbying to host the Central Division Open in 2012.
Leave some comments for Rodney Titze and the good folks in Mitchell. Some words of encouragement from the bowling community in the US, Canada and abroad will go a long way to making them feel supported.

Southeast Divsion Bowlers Make Good Showing at 2009 US Open
The US Open was held October 24 - 30 on several greens in the Sun City, AZ area northwest of Phoenix. An international field of about 350 bowlers made for some keen competition and several of our Southeast Division bowlers fared very well in the team events.
Several of our Southeast Division bowlers who teamed up with bowlers outside the division were successful. The Men's Fours runners-up team was made up entirely of Southeast Division bowlers.
The results:
Women's Pairs: 1st Place - Championship Flight: Barb Roller and Jean Roney 3rd Place - Championship Flight: Jackie Tucker and Mary Ann Beath
Men's Pairs: 2nd Place - Seventh Flight: Burl Roller and Bob Patterson
Women's Fours: 3rd Place - Championship Flight: Barb Roller, Jean Roney, Lorraine Hitchcock, Michelle Arculli
Men's Fours: 2nd Place - Championship Flight: Abe Kaplan (Lakeland), Earl Shaner, Bud Ricucci, and Gary Williamson (Mount Dora)
Congratulations!

East Coast Challenge 2009
East Coast Challenge - 2009
The Motta Cup was reclaimed by the Southeast Division Sunday afternoon, September 20, after five
rounds (45 games) of play. The final score was 40-20 (two points for a win, one point for a tie,) thus
negating the need to play the final round. The weather was beautiful and the pace of green improved
steadily as the weekend progressed. By the fifth round, it was the best we've seen in fifteen years.
The Pinehurst grounds crew is to be complimented on their devotion to care of the bowling green.
Friday was the usual practice day when all players practice on the tournament rinks, thus precluding
any local knowledge advantage. Friday night featured the dinner for both teams at the historic
Pinecrest Inn. Dining at the restaurant was a departure from the usual barbecue and was welcomed
by most of the players.
On Saturday, after the traditional Opening Ceremony featuring a Stanley Cup greeting of the teams,
three rounds of pairs and triples were played by three squads from each division. The Southeast won
the Pairs 12-6 and the Triples 14-4. At the mid-point of the Challenge, Southeast lead 26 -- 10.
Come Sunday, under clear skies and moderate temperatures, the Southeast never looked back,
winning the Singles 8-4 and splitting the Rinks 6-6, thus accumulating an overwhelming lead of 40 -20.
Needing only 37 total points to reclaim the cup, the final round was scrubbed. Notwithstanding the
lopsided result, most games were close and exciting. Excellent sportsmanship, the hallmark of this
tournament was strictly observed. Head Umpire, Colin Smith was called upon only once, and that for
a close measure.
The Southeast Team Members: Charlie Roach, John Garbett, Lenore Roach, Christine Garbett,
George Tucker, Barb Roller, Abe Kaplan, Dick Ellis, Bobbi Elwell, Marita Nierth, Earl Shaner,
Burl Roller, Bud Ricucci, Michael Maneilly, Jackie Tucker.
After ten meetings of the divisions, Southeast leads the series 7 -- 3.
